They say necessity is the mother of invention, but I’d say it’s curiosity. Sometimes you look at something and wonder, “could I use this for something else?”
Years ago I heard of a company trying to convince Japanese women to bake cakes in their rice cookers, and how the idea failed because the rice cooker was next to sacred, and Japanese women didn’t want it smelling like baked bread. But my curious mind was just wondering, “can you really bake in a rice cooker?” After all, there are 12v rice cookers, so it might be worth exploring.
There are some appliances that look like rice cookers but claim to be pressure cookers, but I’m doubtful and concerned that is just a marketing ploy to trick people who don’t know better.

It turns out you can make quite a few things in a rice cooker, but a 12v cooker is limited to about 100w, while a small household rice cooker uses about 300w. They may not cook the same but it’s worth doing some tasty experiments. I’ll give it a try in my kitchen this weekend, and if they work, I might invest in a 12v cooker that has multiple functions.

I have to say that having a delicious frittata cooking while I hit the snooze on my alarm, or a cooking a yummy apple tart while I finish the last hour of my drive to the KOA sounds amazing!
